Application:
- As flux in metallurgy: Molten Borax cleans the surface of hot metal by dissolving metal oxides. This creates good contact between the metal surfaces when the metals are welded.
- Borax tempered glass to withstand heat, and put it into crockery before it was molded into shape.
- Wood treatment: Borax is melted and brushed onto the exterior of the wood, or the wood is dipped in a reservoir of borax water. This wood is then housed to prevent wood termites or other pests from eating away at the wood (because it is toxic to these organisms).
- In the manufacture of insecticides: In the kitchen black ant killer product manufactured by the NIPPON company, the liquid contains 5.5% borax (listed on the front of the vial because it is poisons must be recorded).
